TRAFFIC ENGINEERING PROGRAMS

Signal Maintenance, Traffic Operations Group, Neighborhood Streets Program (NSP)

Traffic Signal Maintenance Traffic Operations
 Annual cabinet checks  Investigate a variety of traffic concerns:
 Preventative maintenance Requests for traffic signs, striping and
 Traffic signal timing signals as well as other operational and
 Locates safety issues.
 Activation/lnspections of new installations  Provide technical support to Engineering,
 Traffic signal repairs CPM and other Divisions, including
 24/7 emergency call-outs Operations, Current Planning and the
 Maintenance and repair of 900+ street lights Sheriffs Office.

Traffic Investigations Contract Support:
 Speed Zoning  Assist Operations with contract
 Regulatory, Warning, Directional, Informational development as related to materials and
Signs quantities of striping and markings for
 Crosswalks selected Work Plan activities
 School Safety  Layout of striping and markings on
 Sight Distance resurfaced/repaired roads in Operations'
 Street Lights Work Plan: Road Fund Overlay, Chip Seal,
 Striping Machine Patching, Gravel Road Upgrades,
 Roadway Safety PER's, URMD Overlay & Slurry
 Administer annual count contract
 Administer data collection contract for
traffic control device inventory

Inspection Activities Neighborhood Streets Program
 Review all roads to determine any needed  Encourage citizen involvement -
changes to striping and/or markings on Neighborhood Meetings, Newsletters, Door
resurfaced/repaired roads in Operations' Work Hangers
Plan: Road Fund Overlay, Chip Seal, Machine  Lower vehicle speeds in neighborhoods -
Patching, Gravel Road Upgrades, PER's, URMD Speed Radar Trailer, Portable Speed Reader
Overlay & Slurry Board, Lawn Signs
 Inspect developments for conditioned Traffic  Reduce cut-through traffic and improve
Control Devices safety for pedestrians, bicyclists, and
drivers -Speed Cushions, Speed Display
Signs & Traffic Circles

Other Activities
 Maintain and operate Intelligent Transportation
System (ITS)
 Maintain Safety Priority Index System (SPIS)
 Maintain accident database
 Perform ad hoc traffic counts and speed
surveys
 Implement process to gain compliance with
recent changes to State & Federal standards
 Maintain Intersection & Roadway files
 Maintain and update Road Logs (track all
signing changes in the County)
 Maintain lists of School Zone signs & markings
 Emergency Response, as requested
