Contracted Shoulder Spray - In conjunction with the shoulder mowing program this activity helps to
eliminate the growth of tall grasses and other unwanted vegetation on road shoulders. Done to
eliminate sight distance problems and fire hazards and to improve the flow of drainage off the road.
Typically accomplished in May and June.

Contracted Landscape Maintenance - Comprehensive maintenance of designated landscaped areas
within the road right-of-way, to improve aesthetic appearance, maintain irrigation systems, and
maintain sight distance. Accomplished year round.

Contracted Pavement Markings - This work includes paint striping, durable striping, and installation of
raised pavement markers. Most of the work will take place on higher classification roadways. Work will
be performed at night on roads with high traffic volumes to reduce conflicts with the freshly laid stripes.

Contracted Surface Stabilization - Placement of an environmentally approved soil stabilization agent such
as lignin sulfonate solution on short segments of selected gravel roads (generally on steep grades) to
reduce the occurrence of severe surface roughness (aka “wash-boarding”) which usually occurs in the dry
           summer months

Contracted Culvert Replacement - Removal and replacement of damaged, defective or inadequate
culverts. The work is contracted out due to the scope and complexity of the project.

           Special Category

Maintenance Local Improvement Districts - A legal entity formed by the Board of County Commissioners
to allow local residents a method to fund a higher level of maintenance for their road than is provided to
other roads of the same classification. This service is paid for through an increase in the property tax of
affected residents. Work completed by the county is billed directly to the LID.

Timber Revenue Roads - A category of roads eligible to receive timber revenue money from the State of
Oregon for the purpose of road maintenance. The Oregon Department of Forestry identifies roads
associated with state timber harvests; maintenance costs for work performed by the county are then
submitted to the state for reimbursement.

Rural Resource Roads - A sub-category of rural local roads which receive a higher level of maintenance
than other local roads because of their importance to local economic activity. Roads can be added or
removed from this list as their importance to economic activity changes.

Annual Corridor Inspections - Visual assessment of road segments with no planned maintenance
           activities.

Road Maintenance Program Summary - An alphabetical listing of all county roads programmed to
receive maintenance during the fiscal year. In addition, it details the category and type of maintenance
           that is planned.
